If you’re considering becoming Catholic, or a Catholic that never received First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, then the OCIA process (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) might be for you.
OCIA prepares men and women to make a conscious choice whether or not they want to receive the sacraments of initiation offered by the Catholic Church (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation).
If you are thinking about being Catholic, we do offer classes throughout the year. September/October to Easter is the most common group but other group timeslots are available throughout the year.
Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA)
OCIA Catechumen and Candidates are formed throughout the year. There are several Rites and Scrutinies throughout the year (recognition at mass and among our parish) that each Catechumen and Candidate will be expected to attend. This group celebrates their sacraments at Easter Vigil (or other Mass) at the site determined by our Pastorate.
In the meantime, you are welcome at Mass. We just ask that you do not receive Holy Eucharist. You are able to come forward for a blessing at Communion time if you wish.
To find out more about the OCIA, please reach out to your local parish office or email [email protected].
Adult Confirmation Preparation
There are Catholic adults that missed only their Confirmation. These Confirmands may use our OCIA course to receive the preparation for Confirmation. However, if enough interest exists, a separate group may be formed to better address their needed formation. Adult Confirmation is received at a Diocese of Madison Sunday Mass around Pentecost. This mass is officiated by Bishop Hying.
To find out more about Adult Confirmation, please reach out to your local parish office or email [email protected].
Children’s Catechumenal Process
These classes will prepare each child for all needed sacraments at their current level and prepare them to join Faith Formation the following year with their peers.
While Easter Vigil is the preferred sacrament event for these children, the Catholic church does recognize that not all children will appreciate the large celebration. Families can elect for a private Sacramental Rite.
